Wired glass is the glass industry's first attempt at a safe product. Its construction in terms of composition and melting is the same as that of the common glass. The big difference lies in the stage, where the glass pane is still in liquid form and the coagulation phase starts. In this phase, a stainless steel metal mesh is inserted into the liquid mixture, which is incorporated into the glass mass.
Because of the metal mesh, the wired glass has increased elasticity and in case of breakage the mesh retains the glass shards, thus avoiding injuries.
The wired glass panes are also an easy solution to fire safety issues, since they have the ability to hold the flames even after their breakage.
